Newest Member of the Big Head Club
Oh yeah, I forgot to update you guys on my head issue. I went last week for an ultrasound since my head circumference had increased so much (from 50th to 90th percentile in two months). The exam looked exactly the same as when they looked at me in mommy's tummy, including putting that yucky jelly stuff on my head! Did not do wonders for my gorgeous hair do! I had to lay still for 6 or 7 minutes while they rubbed that mini-wand thing all over my soft spot. Mom was trying to entertain and distract me. I made sure to yell in protest a few times and then I got distracted by the pretty pink sleeve of my ultrasound tech. =) My doctor's office called later that night to tell me everything looked fine and nothing came up to concern them. Yep, basically just means I have a big ol head, which just means more room for my big brain! =)

Butt Kicking Cold
Well, since my trip to the pumpkin patch, my health has still not been the best. Mommy ended up taking me back to the doctor Thursday after the trip to urgent care because my cough was still really bad and I couldn't sleep at all. Since I was already on antibiotics and am too little for much else, they told mommy she would just have to bear with sleepless nights for a little bit longer. Poor mommy! =(
My daddy left for Chicago that same day for business. I tried my best to sleep good for Mommy, but it was really hard. I was happy and in a good mood, but still had a nasty runny nose and silly cough. On Saturday, I had a playdate with my friend Mahalia. I'm really jealous that she knows how to walk. I decided that I wanted to start drinking out of a sippy cup after watching her do it. Piece of cake! She even let me ride her like a pony! That was fun! Later that night, my kapuna and vovo drove down to San Diego to visit. I was SOOOO happy to see them (and mommy was too!). I was much bigger than the last time they saw me, especially my kapuna who hadn't seen me for 4 whole months. I was extra lucky that I didn't have to go to school on Monday and Tuesday so I could spend time with my grandparents. It was the best ever playing hookey!
I went back to school on Wednesday since kapuna and vovo had to go back home. Ms. Pilar gave me lots of kisses because she had missed me a lot. I had a great day at school and was glad to see my friends again. When mommy went to take me to school on Thursday morning, my left eye was pretty swollen and all goopy. It looked like I had been in a fight. Mommy couldn't take me to school so I got to go to work with her for a few hours. The doctor was able to prescribe antibiotic eyedrops over the phone. Pink eye in both eyes. Yuck. Daddy came home Thursday night and since I hadn't been on the eyedrops for 24 hours yet, I got to stay home again on Friday with Daddy.
On Saturday, I drove up to Orange County to see my Gong Gong and Po Po before they leave for their long cruise. Mom and Dad went out for most of the day. I was a really good girl. My runny nose finally seems to have gone away and my eyes are better. I just have to keep tolerating those stupid drops for a few more days to make sure the infection is all gone. Now my poor Mommy is really sick. Yesterday I knew she was home but I didn't get to see her unless I was going to eat. I hung out with Daddy so Mommy could rest. I tried to be extra good and have gone back to sleeping through the night after 6 long weeks of getting up 3-4 times a night! This morning, Mommy still wasn't feeling good, so Daddy drove me to school so Mommy could rest at home. Even though this cold/flu has been kicking butt in the Lui house, you would have never guessed I was sick because I still acted pretty happy.

Ignore my non-matching outfit and just focus on my cute little face! =)

I am so glad my daddy is home! Stay tuned for upcoming photos of me in my first Halloween costume!

Pumpkin Patch and Urgent Care
Me, Mommy, and Daddy went to the pumpkin patch today at Victoria's Garden in Lakeside, where my mom used to work. I had a lot of fun looking at everything, but I didn't have a lot of smile in me today. We found out later on in the evening, after mommy and daddy took me to urgent care, that I have an upper respiratory infection, an ear infection, and a double eye infection. I have had a runny nose for the past three weeks, but I've been more stuffy the past couple of days. Then my stupid eye started watering, and then the watering turned into having nasty yellow crap coming out of it. I had a fever of 101.4 once I was at urgent care. The doctor gave me some antibiotics, which should knock out both my eye and ear issues. I took some Tylenol and finally fell asleep to the sound of my humidifier while smelling the Vicks vapors from the bottom of my feet! I hope I will feel better in the morning. Here are some pictures from my first trip to get a little pumpkin!

4 Month Highlights
Mommy is going to do this post since I am too tired from my cold and my shots....
I can't believe September has already come and gone. I must say, being a working mom is more of a challenge than I could have ever imagined! I have yet to find a routine and a good balance in my life. It has gotten easier to drop Emma off at daycare but between 1:30 and 4:30 when my students leave and I get to pick her up, I get incredibly anxious to get to see her. The hardest part was missing one of Emma's "firsts". Ms. Pilar informed me that Emma had started rolling over from her back to her tummy. Well, Emma did not display this new trick for mommy and daddy for several more days. But boy is she rolling all over now! I am so proud of her and she is so proud of herself for doing it!
Another first during this month was that Emma attended her first birthday party for her girlfriend, Kayla, who turned one. Emma had lots of fun at the party and was sad that she wasn't allowed to eat any cake!
Ms. Piggy also started eating rice cereal in a highchair like a big girl. I was going to hold off until her four month appointment (which actually wasn't scheduled until she was 4 1/2 months old) but Emma's lip smacking and attempts to grab my plate at dinner indicated to me that she just might be ready for some cereal. She had NO problem eating it! No ugly faces. No spitting any back out. My lil' meatball acted like she had been eating from a spoon her whole life! Due to all of her funky food allergies, we will probably hold off on veggies and fruits for another month or so to give her digestive system more time to mature.
Emma got her first cold, starting with a runny nose last Monday. Since my time off from work is very limited, I wasn't sure if I should keep her home or not. I decided to take a half day off. She seemed okay, but her runny nose persisted through the week. Well, by Tuesday, her poor little cold had progressed and she couldn't breathe well at all. Poor baby couldn't nurse unless I was sitting in some funky pose that allowed her to be upright to eat. She wasn't running a fever, but she was pretty miserable. We put a humidifier in her room. put Baby Vicks on the bottom of her feet (Thanks for the suggestion Auntie Andrea!), and put a pillow under her mattress to help elevate her head. She had a restless night so daddy stayed home with her on Wednesday, I stayed home with her on Thursday, and her Mema came for a visit and stayed home with her on Friday. She slept A LOT on those three days, which helped start getting rid of that nasty cold. :(
On Friday, Emma had her four month checkup. I wasn't sure if she would be able to get her shots because of her cold. However, she checked out okay. No fever, no ear infections and her lungs were clear. Just a cold virus. Ms. Piggy now weighs 14.1 pounds and is 25 1/4 inches long. This puts her in the 60th percentile for weight and 90th percentile for height! It's hard to believe that when I was pregnant, I was sent for an additional ultrasound because I was so small and Emma measured in the 35th percentile at one time! Her head also shot up in size to the 90th percentile. Due to this huge change (everything was at the 50th percentile at her 2 month appointment), the doctor wanted to have Emma's head checked to make sure everything was okay. This is due to her head size increase and due to the prominence of her soft spot. I'm not really concerned and neither is the doctor, but they are sending her in for an ultrasound just to make sure. Fortunately since she is so young and her soft spot is still open, they can do an ultrasound and don't have to do a CT scan (like her friends Mahalia and Ian) where they have to sedate the baby. Hopefully everything checks out okay, but as of right now, I'm not too worried.
I thought some fresh air would do Emma some good, so we went to the beach in Coronado today. Emma LOVES putting her feet in the sand and the water still. She checked out the Hotel del Coronado, but I sadly informed her that she wasn't allowed to get married there because mommy and daddy wouldn't be able to afford it. =) I forgot my camera at work this weekend so I will upload some new pictures next week sometime. Hopefully I will have more energy to update her blog more frequently. Emma typically only gets up once during the night for about 15 minutes to eat but getting up everyday at 4:30 to give me enough time to pump, get ready, get the baby ready, get her to daycare, and get to work by 8 is very tiring. My hopes are that a more normal routine will fall into place sometime soon. My days are long and I am constantly on the go from 4:30 until Emma is fast asleep by 8:30.
We all hope everyone is doing well! XOXOXO
